United States 2, Mexico 0: Player Ratings

The US is on its way to Brazil after getting a 2-0 victory over Mexico and Honduras and Panama drawing 2-2. The US did not start that well, with good high pressure. However, the US started to improve and showed lots of danger on set pieces. The US took control in the second half with a goal from a corner by Eddie Johnson after which Mexico seemed to lose confidence. The US added a second before the 80th minute after some nice touches by Mix Diskerud who crossed and getting a slight touch by Clint Dempsey it found Landon Donovan who finished it into the top of the net. The US missed a late penalty but saw the US secured victory and its spot in Brazil.

Tim Howard–6.5
He was tested in the first half and made a number of great saves. He had less to do in the second half, but was still solid.

Fabian Johnson–5.5
He had some good connections going forward, but was caught too far up the field as well.

Omar Gonzalez–6
Dominant in the air and defended quite well, but had some poor passes in the first half that led to turnovers.

Clarence Goodson–6
Similar performance to Gonzalez. He defended well, but distribution was poor in the first half.

DaMarcus Beasley–6.5
It was another solid performance. He did well pushing up late in the second half and showed some solid one on one defending.

Kyle Beckerman–6
His distribution was solid if somewhat safe. He lingered on the ball too long at times, but a good performance.

Jermaine Jones–7.5
It was perhaps the most complete performance by Jones. He worked tirelessly and was able to push into attack, but also worked incredibly hard breaking up attacks.

Alejandro Bedoya–6.5
His stock continues to rise as he justified his start over Zusi. He worked tirelessly and was able to put in some dangerous crosses.

Clint Dempsey–5
It was an incredibly poor performance by Dempsey capped by his penalty miss. He was caught on the ball and few of his passes came off. He looked a step slow all game. He did get a defelection to set up the second goal.

Landon Donovan–7
He defended and went forward down the wing well. His corner kicks were also consistent and solid.

Eddie Johnson–7
He held up the ball well in the first half when the US was under pressure. He also did well to head the ball for the first goal capitalizing on the mistake by the Meixcan keeper.

Substitutions:
Michael Parkhurst–6
He was solid defensively although he did very little going into attack.

Mix Diskerud–6.5
He did not play for very long, but he made some good touches including doing the hardest work in the build-up in the second goal.

Graham Zusi–NR
He had a short cameo to see out the game.
